JULY 31-AUGUST 2
Written and directed by the great Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda (Still Walking, Nobody Knows), I Wish stars real-life brothers Koki and Ohshiro Maeda as siblings living on opposite ends of the island Kyushu. Koichi, age 13, lives on the southern part of the island with his mother and grandparents. Ryu, age 11, is with his father in the northern city of Hakata. The brothers have heard that when two trains pass for the first time, a miracle happens. After Koichi learns that a brand new bullet train will soon link to his town to Hakata, he concocts a plan to meet Ryu in the middle in hopes of mending their parents' divorce.
"A wonderful adventure film that's no less thrilling for its modest scale, and a film whose emotional power and intelligence sneak up on you." (Andrew O'Hehir, Salon)
