Il Barbiere di Siviglia
Rossini, 1816
Rossini completed all the music for Il Barbiere di Siviglia in less than three weeks. This opera buffa was booed at its first performance, only to become a hit a week later. Its popularity has only increased since then, and it is now one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide. Its famous arias, such as Figaro’s “Largo al factotum” (“Figaro, Figaro, Figaro, Fi-garo!”) and Rosina’s “Una voce poco fa” are tuneful, virtuosic, and beloved by opera buffs and newbies alike.
